About Us

The Alhambra Elementary School District is located in central Phoenix and encompasses 13 square miles within the cities of Phoenix and Glendale. Alhambra has 14 primary, middle, or elementary schools including a traditional school and a preschool center, and serves nearly 14,200 students in preschool through eighth grades. Ninety-three percent of students receive free or reduced-price food services, and nearly 17 percent of students are English language learners.

History of Alhambra

The Alhambra School District was organized on August 6, 1888. Our first school was a one-room brick building on Shady Lane, now known as 33rd Avenue, between Grand Avenue and Indian School Road. Today, the Alhambra Elementary School District is no longer a small school on the west side of Phoenix. We now have 14 elementary schools and serve more than 14,200 students in preschool through eighth grades. We are proud of our history and strive to maintain our excellent educational traditions.
